Deliverance from Anger and Rage

Anger is one of the more misunderstood topics in deliverance ministry. Most anger is human and normal. Where it has become uncontrollable — recurring rage, relational damage, an inability to self-regulate even when you want to — there may be spiritual layers worth addressing alongside the human ones.

What scripture says

Be angry but do not sin; do not let the sun set on your anger, and do not leave room for the devil.

— Ephesians 4:26–27

The three layers of anger

• Righteous anger. Anger at injustice, abuse, sin. Jesus had this. Not a target for deliverance.
• Wounded anger. Anger covering deeper wounds — rejection, shame, trauma. Address the wound; the anger often eases as the wound heals.
• Spirit of anger. Where anger has become an "I cannot stop" pattern, disproportionate to triggers, recurring across years. Deliverance prayer addresses this layer.

The framework

1. Confess and repent where anger has been expressed sinfully — including to the people it landed on
2. Identify the wound underneath (rejection, trauma, fear)
3. Pray inner healing prayer for the wound
4. Renounce the spirit of anger in the Name of Jesus
5. Consider therapy if anger is damaging relationships
6. Build practical self-regulation tools (breath, exit, pause)

Walking it out

Build practical self-regulation alongside the spiritual work. When you sense rage rising, exit, breathe, pray a short prayer ("Jesus, mercy"). Practice over time builds new patterns. Heal the wound underneath. Stay in prayer and community.
