Deliverance prayer is as old as the Church itself. It is also distinct from formal exorcism. The prayer below is a deliverance prayer any believer can pray — over themselves, or with someone else who has asked for it.
The scriptural foundation
Scripture is direct about two things at once: the enemy is real, and he is already defeated. Jesus disarmed the powers at the Cross (Colossians 2:15), gave His followers authority over them (Luke 10:19), and promised that driving out demons in His Name would follow those who believe (Mark 16:17). That is the ground this prayer stands on — not a technique, and not a credential.

A Christian Deliverance Prayer
Heavenly Father, in the Name of Jesus Christ and by the power of the Holy Spirit, I come to You in this hour.
I confess that I have sinned in thought, word, deed, and in what I have left undone. I thank You that if I confess my sins, You are faithful and just to forgive them and to cleanse me from all unrighteousness. Lord, I bring before You every doorway I have opened to the enemy — willful, ignorant, or inherited from my family line — and I close them now in the Name of Jesus Christ.
By the blood of Jesus, I renounce every agreement with darkness. I renounce every occult involvement, every dabbling, every consultation with what is not of God. I renounce every generational pattern that has been operating in my family line.
Father, You command Your angels concerning me, to guard me in all my ways. Send them to stand around me now. Every spirit that is not from God, I command you in the Name of Jesus Christ to stop your work and leave. You have no claim on me. I have been bought with a price and I belong to Jesus.
Lord Jesus, I belong to You. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit. Let Your Word be my food and Your presence my home.

How to pray this
Before you pray it, take real time to confess — to God, and where it helps, out loud to a trusted believer (James 5:16). Sin brought into the light loses most of its grip. Then pray this prayer slowly, out loud, in a quiet space where you can speak freely.
Why the prayer is shaped this way
The order is not arbitrary. Confession comes first because sin is the most common doorway. Renunciation comes next because agreements have to be reversed by the person who made them. The command comes last, once the ground has been cleared — James gives the same order: submit to God first, then resist the devil, and he will flee (James 4:7).

Stay in scripture. Stay in confession and repentance. Stay in worship. Pray this prayer again when you need it — freedom is sustained the same way it was won. And build community around you that knows your story.
What this prayer is NOT
Not a formal exorcism. Not a substitute for real repentance. Not a replacement for medical or psychological care where those are needed. Deliverance prayer works alongside those things — never as a substitute for either.
