Renunciation is one of the most concrete tools in deliverance prayer. Where you have agreed with sin, made occult or quasi-occult agreements, or accepted lies about yourself, renunciation reverses the agreement specifically and out loud.

Renouncing the devil out loud is one of the oldest Christian practices there is — new believers have been asked some form of "Do you renounce Satan and all his works?"since the earliest centuries of the Church. That "I do" is meant to be repeated throughout life, not said once and filed away.

Prayer of Renunciation
Lord Jesus Christ, I renew the confession I made when I first came to You. I reject Satan. I reject all his works. I reject all his empty promises. I belong to You.
Specifically, in the Name of Jesus:
— I renounce every occult involvement I or my family have ever participated in: tarot, astrology, ouija, séances, palm reading, fortune telling, witchcraft, Wicca, New Age practices, false religion, or any other involvement with the spirit world apart from Christ.
— I renounce every agreement I have made with lies about myself: that I am unloved, that I am too much, that I am not enough, that I will never change, that I am hopeless, that I am alone. (Add specific lies you have agreed with.)
— I renounce every soul tie that has been formed outside of God's design — sexual, relational, controlling. I ask You to sever them by Your blood.
— I renounce every generational agreement that has been operating in my family line.
By the blood of Jesus, I close every doorway these agreements opened. Holy Spirit, fill what is now empty.
In the Name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
How to pray this
Be specific. The more specifically you name what you renounce, the more directly the prayer addresses it. Take your time. The Holy Spirit will surface things you have forgotten or did not know to name.
Why renunciation has to be spoken
An agreement made in the dark is broken in the light. Scripture repeatedly ties freedom to what is said — confession with the mouth (Romans 10:9-10), confessing sins to one another (James 5:16), resisting the devil out loud (James 4:7). Renunciation is you reversing, out loud, something you once agreed to. Pair it with real repentance for the sin itself.
If the same agreement tries to return
Some renunciations need to be repeated — especially around long-standing patterns. If the same lie or pattern resurfaces, renounce it again. Each renunciation is real. Repeat as needed.
What this prayer is NOT
Not a magic formula. Not a substitute for confessing and repenting of the actual sins. It is part of a whole life of submission to Christ; pair it with ongoing repentance and real community.
