Prayer for Deliverance from Fear

Fear is one of the most common spirits we pray against. This is a deliverance prayer specifically for fear — scripture-grounded, pastoral, hope-forward.

Fear is the most common spirit we encounter in this ministry. It comes in many forms — general anxiety, fear of a specific situation, fear of the dark, fear of being alone, fear that has no obvious cause. Wherever it comes from, the Lord has something to say about it.

The biblical foundation

For God did not give us a spirit of cowardice but rather of power and love and self-control.

2 Timothy 1:7

There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear.

1 John 4:18

The prayer

Prayer for Deliverance from Fear

Lord Jesus Christ, I bring before You every fear I am carrying — the fears I can name and the fears I cannot. I confess that I have agreed with fear instead of trusting You. Forgive me.

I forgive every person whose actions or words first planted these fears in me. (Name them if you can.) I release them to You.

In the Name of Jesus Christ, I renounce the spirit of fear in my life. Spirit of fear, you are not from God. You have no authority over me. I command you to leave me now and go where Jesus sends you.

Holy Spirit, fill the space fear has occupied with Your power, Your love, and Your sound mind. Father, teach me how to walk by faith and not by sight.

In the Name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

How to pray this

When fear hits, pray this — even if it is only the renouncing line. The Holy Spirit will honor a short, sincere prayer over a long performed one. Pray it whenever the fear spikes. Pray it daily for the first 30 days, then as needed.

Why we pray against fear by name

Scripture does not treat fear as merely a feeling. Paul tells Timothy that the spirit God gave us is not a spirit of fear (2 Timothy 1:7) — which implies there is another kind on offer. That is why this prayer names it and renounces it directly rather than simply asking to feel better. Pair the prayer with confession where the fear is tied to specific sin, and with patient care where it is tied to trauma.

If the same struggle returns

Fear often returns at the same predictable triggers — a specific time of day, a specific relationship, a specific memory. Pray this prayer in advance of those moments. Build a rhythm.

What this prayer is NOT

Not a substitute for clinical care for anxiety disorders, PTSD, or OCD. Not a guarantee that every fear will instantly vanish. It is real prayer in the Name of Jesus, and it works — sometimes immediately, more often over weeks of repetition.
