What scripture says
Let there not be found among you anyone... who immolates his son or daughter in the fire, nor a fortune-teller, soothsayer, charmer, diviner, or caster of spells, nor one who consults ghosts and spirits or seeks oracles from the dead. Anyone who does such things is an abomination to the LORD.

Why scripture treats this as its own category
Occult practice is not listed in scripture as a lesser curiosity — it appears alongside the gravest warnings. Deuteronomy 18 calls it detestable. Galatians 5:19-20 lists sorcery among the works of the flesh. Acts 19 shows new believers destroying, at real financial cost, the books they had used. The seriousness is not fear-mongering; it is scripture's own weighting.
The path to freedom

- Confess it honestly — to God, and out loud to a trusted believer or pastor
- Renounce each practice out loud in the Name of Jesus
- Remove physical items connected to the practice (Acts 19:19 pattern — books, decks, crystals used for divination)
- Pray for protection daily
- Consider one-on-one deliverance prayer if heaviness remains
Walking it out
Some doorways close immediately; others take repeated prayer and ongoing vigilance. Stay in scripture and community. If a specific influence resurfaces (a memory, a temptation, an unsettled sense), renounce it again. The Lord is fully able to set you free from this.
